Wild Foods Italy – Truffle Hunting Day

Treat yourselves to an authentic cultural experience, truffle hunting in the Apennine Mountains. The day starts combing the truffle-rich forests and pastures of Pettino, with expert truffle hunters and trained dogs. Once you have enough truffles for lunch, you'll stop and sample your pickings with a few glasses of prosecco and snacks, then head back to the farm for an aperitivo and traditional Umbrian lunch. Very highly recommended and not to be missed! Early booking advised.

Wine Tasting & Lunch

Antonelli San Marco Estate in Montefalco is a well-known vineyard and winery that offers a variety of tours and tastings. We recommend the tasting and lunch tour which begins with a stroll through the Sagrantino vines followed by a visit to the cellar where you'll learn about the fermentation and production process. You'll then be seated for a typical Umbrian lunch and wine tasting. The tour, tasting and lunch costs approximately 30€ and takes place from 12pm to 2.30pm, Monday to Saturday. The vineyard is located 40 minutes north of the venue. Early booking advised.

Marmore Waterfalls

The Marmore Falls are the tallest man-made waterfalls in Europe and are located 15 minutes from the Abbazia. The water flow is switched on and off three times during the day, so it’s best to arrive an hour before the ‘opening of the water’ so you can get to the top without getting soaked and see the waterfalls in their full glory. There are also several places to eat just inside the entrance. Tickets cost 10€, though many of the hotels listed offer tickets for free – so do check before you leave!

EXPLORE

Umbria

Italy's green heart, Umbria is a land unto itself, the only Italian region that borders neither the sea nor another country. Removed from outside influences, it has kept alive many of Italy's old-world traditions. The area is full of beautiful hilltop towns, all within easy reach by car. Spoleto, Assisi and Perugia are the biggest towns nearby and well worth a visit, but the smaller hill-top towns such as Spello, Tevi, Norcia, Castelluccio are equally charming - just give everything a google!

Tuscany

Tuscany borders Umbria, and in many ways, they are very similar, with amazing food and drink, rolling hills and medieval towns. For those hiring a car, you can be in the famous wine region of Montepulciano in less than an hour, or take a trip a little further afield to the beautiful towns of Siena, Florence and the Chianti region,
